Rare Deer on Dartmoor

Extremely Rare White Deer seen 8 miles from our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage in Lustleigh, Devon

A White Hart that’s not a pub

An extremely rare white deer was seen on Dartmoor last week.  It was spotted by walkers enjoying Dunsford Nature Reserve which is only 8 miles from our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage.

The walkers showed the Devon Wildlife Trust amazing video footage of the fallow deer travelling in a herd.  It is believed a rare genetic condition called Leucism has affected the deer resulting in the white appearance through a partial loss of pigmentation.

There are quite a few herds of deer living in the Teign Valley,  which roam between the forests close to Lustleigh and Dunsford Woods.  Although not common place, it’s not unheard of for a quiet or resting walker to come across a deer or two when walking on Dartmoor.

You never know, you might be lucky enough to spot a real White Hart whilst staying at our Dartmoor Holiday Home.  You’ll certainly be sure to see an abundance of wildlife and beautiful scenery.

“Practically Perfect Cottage”

TripAdvisor describes Three Pound Cottage as “Practically Perfect”, the only problem is “leaving”.

Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor Holiday Rental achieves consistent 5 star reviews

Perfect holiday cottage on Dartmoor

This Dartmoor holiday rental now has 39 reviews on TripAdvisor, all rate their stay as excellent.  The latest review gives high praise describing the holiday cottage as being practically perfect saying the only problem was leaving.

Like this review, many mention how owners Michaela and Brian do all they can to ensure their guests are comfortable, feel at home and get the most out of their stay.

When Michaela and Brian restored and renovated this historic cottage they did so with the mindset of it becoming not only their own Dartmoor Holiday Home but one that they would be proud to share with others.  It is this approach of ensuring that everything is as they would want it to be for themselves that generates such consistently good reviews.

It’s no wonder many of their guests return year after year.

Dartmoor holiday home closed for May

The Dartmoor Holiday Home has closed for new bookings up to 22 May due to Covid-19 travel restrictions

Will I never get a holiday at Three Pound Cottage

Owners of Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor Holiday Home have decided to close the self catering holiday rental to new bookings up to 22 May.  Michaela commented, “It’s hard to imagine the travel restrictions being lifted so it’s right not to allow guests to make bookings for holidays they’re unlikely to take”.

We all hope the travel restrictions will soon be no longer required, so existing bookings for May remain in place for now not to disappoint guests unnecessarily.  If the travel restrictions continue then these bookings will be cancelled with a full refund under our “Book Dartmoor with Confidence” promise.

Number Eight, best in the south west

Just two years ago Joshua Jones and Chloe Wilks opened Number 8 in Bideford to share their passion for food.  All Joshua’s food is freshly prepared using local produce and served in a relaxed atmosphere.

During the course of the last two years Joshua and Chloe have acquired 220 “excellent” reviews on TripAdvisor.  This is no mean feat but their crowning glory must be winning the “Best restaurant in the South West” award this year.

Why not book a table whilst staying at Three Pound Cottage.  Our Dartmoor Holiday Home is the perfect base camp to explore all that Dartmoor and Devon have to offer, including a visit to Number 8.

“Ever Present” Local

Members of the Ever Presents, dartmoor holiday cottage

The members of the “Ever Present

One of Lustleigh’s locals, Mike Peace, is a member of an exclusive group known as the “Ever Presents”.  This select group has only 10 members from across the country, all of whom have completed every London Marathon – 39 so far!  All 10 are preparing for the 40th Marathon and attended the launch at Tower Bridge.  They were presented with Spirit of the London Marathon Medals and well deserved too.  Although covered by ITV, the South Wales Argus has a far better article if you’d like to read more.

Hats off to Mike, we wish him the best of luck for the 26th April.

2020 is the year to visit Devon

Plynouth commemorating 400 year anniversary of the Mayflower

Plymouth Barbican

Devon 24/7 have produced a great article explaining why 2020 is the year to visit Devon.  As if the warm climate, Dartmoor, 2 dramatic coastlines with award winning beaches, clotted cream and cider wasn’t enough.  There’s an extensive array of food festivals, regattas, sailing events plus 2020 is the 400 year anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers setting sail on the Mayflower to discover America.  Both Plymouth and Dartmouth will be marking the occasion with week long celebrations at the back end of the summer.   And if that’s not enough, Plymouth will again be hosting the British Firework Championships in mid August.

If visiting Devon make sure to stay at Three Pound Cottage, the best self catering holiday cottage on Dartmoor.

4th Prettiest Street in Devon, again!

the pathway past the dartmoor holiday rental Three Pound Cottage in Lustleigh is the 4th prettiest street in Devon

4th prettiest street in Devon

Devon Life magazine have again named the path to Wreyland, which starts from Three Pound Cottage, as the 4 prettiest street in Devon.  No surprise to find Clovelly high street is top of the list again although some would argue that having to pay to walk down the street puts it a league of its own.

We were thrilled to see this article, not because it makes Wreyland Path the prettiest street on Dartmoor, we knew that already.  It was seeing our Dartmoor holiday home in the photograph.
