Beltane Border Morris
There’s a real treat for anyone visiting Lustleigh this Thursday (18th) – the Beltane Border Morris will be stomping, shouting, playing music and generally entertaining from 7:45 at the Cleave.

We’re absolutely thrilled to be awarded Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the second year running.
Being dedicated to making every stay at our Dartmoor holiday cottage the best it can be for our guests has really paid off. However, we wouldn’t have been awarded this if it had not been for our guests taking the time to give their reviews of our self catering holiday accommodation.

Burrator Reservoir
Whilst staying at Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor Holiday home, there really is no need to leave the village.
However, in the unlikely event that you get bored with the fantastic walks and stunning scenery around Lustleigh, Devon Live have compiled a list of the 50 best family walks and picnic spots in Devon.
We’re not sure they are the best 50 but as you would expect, Haytor and Burrator Reservoir feature – both only a short drive from this Dartmoor self catering holiday accommodation.

The Blue Flag Awards for 2019 are in and it should be no surprise that 14 Devon beaches have been given this coveted status. Even more good news is that most are less than 20 miles from Three Pound Cottage, the best Dartmoor Holiday Cottage.

Whilst holidaying at Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor holiday home, you’d expect to see Dartmoor Ponies – they’re an iconic feature of Dartmoor. But would you expect to see Dartmoor Ponies on the coast?
Cirl Bunting
Well you can, thanks to the RSPB, the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust and Dartmoor Farmers from Widecombe-in-the-Moor.
When the RSPB bought Labrador Bay in 2008 there were only 3 pairs of the colourful Cirl Bunting. In a bid to help this rare bird survive, Dartmoor Ponies are employed as conservation grazers from January to May.
Thanks, at least in part, to the Dartmoor Ponies there are now 30 pairs of Cirl Bunting at the reserve.
Labrador Bay is not only home to the Cirl bunting, you can also see Buzzards, Yellowhammers, Peregrines, Skylarks and fantastic views across Lyme Bay.
This coastal reserve is only 16 miles from our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage and close to Shaldon which offers a great day out by the coast whilst staying at this self catering accommodation.

Rainy Days in Devon
Although Devon has more sunshine than the rest of the UK, we do get some rainy days. Not a problem when staying at our self catering Dartmoor holiday cottage. The underfloor heating and wood burner will keep the whole family warm and cosy. The smart TV’s with Netflix and Amazon will keep you entertained, as will the good old family board games. However, if you do want to get out and about Devon Live have compiled an extensive list of things to do in Devon when it rains.

Episode 4 of the BBC’s “Walks of Life” aired this morning and focused on Dartmoor. The presenter, JB Gill, undertakes a 12 mile circular walk from Princetown. The program touches on Dartmoor Prison, Dartmoor Farming, Dartmoor’s spiritual side, the hound of the baskervilles, ghost stories, the importance of Dartmoor’s peat bogs, Dartmoor’s bronze age stone rows and artistic photography.
A fascinating program with great footage of Dartmoor’s mysterious and wonderful scenery. Well worth a viewing, it’s available on the BBC iPlayer for the next 29 days here. It’s a great introduction to Dartmoor for any who are thinking of taking a walking holiday on Dartmoor. Family Fun
Khadija Taboada has compiled a great list of things to do with your kids whilst holidaying in Devon. In addition to the usual suspects of zoo’s and theme parks there are quite a few unfamiliar ones and well worth looking at. Be warned, with 43 things to do, it’s a long list. Please don’t try to cram them all in one week – leave some for your next stay:-).
We’re really pleased to see Dragon Archery in the list – it’s always top of our “things to do” whilst staying at this self catering Dartmoor holiday cottage.

May Queen procession
Lustleigh will be celebrating May Day on Saturday the 4th of May and it does it in style. The celebrations centre around a procession through the village, which passes directly in front of our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage, Maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen. It really is a highlight in the village calendar.
You couldn’t get to join in a more traditional English May Day and our Dartmoor Holiday Accommodation, Three Pound Cottage, is the perfect place to stay.
This village tradition has been running since it’s revival in 1905 by Cecil Torr, the British antiquarian and author who wrote “Small Talk at Wreyland”. Understandably, there was a small lapse due to WWII however surprisingly the annual celebration continued throughout WWI.
I’m sure that it’s just coincidence that the celebrations coincide with Star Wars Day, but may the 4th be with this years May Queen and Lustleigh 🙂

Devon Live has just published a great article revealing 34 secret fascinating places in Devon. It’s no surprise that Dartmoor is well represented.
Meavy’s 1000 year old Oak
You would expect Wistman’s wood, the Warren House Inn and Hound Tor to feature. But who knew that King Charles used Meavy’s great oak tree to hide from Cromwell’s men or that Lydford Gorge was the lair of Roger Rowle AKA the Robin Hood of the West.
You may already be familiar with the House that Moved in Exeter, but a mysterious front door that never opens or the pub with 11 people buried under the bar! Further afield there’s a doomed village, secret underground bases from the 2nd world war, Agatha Christie’s hideaway just to mention a few. If that’s whet your appetite take a look at the full list.
There were certainly some surprises for us and it has given us a few ideas for our next stay at Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor Holiday Home.
