Climbing Volunteers needed

Dartmoor Climbing

Nick Baron

Volunteers are invited to help clean up Chudleigh Rocks on Sunday 27th Jan.  This isn’t your usual litter pick.  Oh no.  Experienced climbers are needed to clean routes as they climb.  Non-climbers are also welcome as there will still be plenty to do at ground level.

The event is being organised by Nick Baron of Taunton Leisure – well done Nick.  You can find out more about it in this Devon story.

Dartmoor offers some fantastic climbing and bouldering and our self catering Dartmoor Holiday Cottage makes an ideal base camp.

Totnes Cinema now showing!

Totnes Cinema is back after 54 years, thanks to Jane Hughes and a whole bunch of volunteers.

Totnes's speakeasy Cinema is only 20 miles away from the Dartmoor Holiday Cottage

Totnes Cinema

However, this isn’t your usual cinematic experience.  It’s really quite different and very special, poles apart from the modern day multiplexes.

Wherever possible films are shown in classic 35mm celluloid giving a vintage charm.  The cinema itself is a relaxed, comfortable environment with a bar serving cocktails giving a “speakeasy” feel and a most enjoyable evening out.  Read all about this unique cinema in this lovely Devon Live article.

With Totnes being only 20 miles from Three Pound Cottage, make sure you plan a visit whilst staying at our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage.

Brixham Pirates steal first prize!

2018 Herald Express Tourism and Hospitality Awards

Shiver me timbers!

Swashbucklers from Brixham ran ashore in Torquay storming the Riviera Conference Centre to take the booty.  All Scally’s were present and incorrect.  Pistol shot filled the air but fear not, no-one danced the hempen and none were pillaged.  These buccaneers were not scuttling the 2018 South Devon Tourism & Hospitality Awards, they were just celebrating winning the award for best Tourism Event/Festival of the year – looks like some may have been 3 sheets to the wind, me hearties.

The Brixham Pirate Festival was a huge success and will take place again in 2019 on 4-6 May.  Even without the Festval, Brixham is one of our favourite days out whilst staying at our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage.

You can find out more about Brixham and other seaside towns to visit whilst holidaying at Three Pound Cottage by looking at our Coastal Towns page in our Things to Do section.

Bovey gets set for Christmas

Get that Christmas feeling by visiting Bovey Tracey’s annual Christmas Street Fayre on 1 December.  The entire main thoroughfare of this pretty market town gets packed with craft, gift, food and drink stalls as well as a festive Santa Grotto.

The Christmas event starts at 3pm and at 4pm watch the Mayor turn on of the Christmas lights.

All proceeds from the event are donated to charity, with the Wolf Pack Armed Forces Charity Bikers benefitting this year.

Bovey Tracey is just 3 miles from our Dartmoor holiday cottage and well worth a visit whilst holidaying in Lustleigh.

Holiday home owners get married

Dartmoor Holiday Cottage owners getting married whilst holidaying in Lustleigh

The Happy Couple

The owners of Three Pound Cottage, the Dartmoor Holiday Home, finally tied the knot whilst holidaying in Lustleigh.  When asked why they chose Dartmoor as the venue, Michaela said “it was the obvious choice following Brian’s proposal at the top of Haytor and where better to honeymoon than in Lustleigh at our Dartmoor Holiday Cottage.”

Michaela and Brian had a relaxed informal ceremony and wedding breakfast at Gidleigh Park.  The evening’s celebrations were rounded off with drinks at their favourite pub, the Cleave in Lustleigh.
